Johannesburg – Eskom has said that it will co-operate with a Treasury investigation of its coal contracts following newspaper reports at the weekend that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has asked the Treasury to “scrutinise” coal-supply contracts awarded by Eskom.

Chief executive Brian Molefe said yesterday that Eskom would await a formal request, “and we shall co-operate with the department as we have done before”.

He said the mooted investigation came as a surprise because Eskom was still waiting for a final Treasury report on a probe done last year on the same matter.

“If they require any additional information from us, we will oblige because we have nothing to hide.”
