Johannesburg – Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has thanked “South Africa for overwhelming support in face of shocking attack this morning”.

On Monday @ThuliMadonsela3 tweeted: “Thank you thank you South Africa for overwhelming support in face of shocking attack this morning. Still baffled regarding basis or purpose.”

The tweet is apparently in response to the release of an ANC Youth League statement calling Madonsela “clumsy clown”, a “political celebrity” and a “CIA agent” amongst other damnatory terms.

The ANCYL said in the statement that it noted Advocate Mandonsela’s quest to be a “political player in the political affairs of South Africa”.

They also accuse the public protector of “undermining the president of the ANC and the head of state” and called on Madonsela “to desist from her actions and words”.

The league’s statement says they can’t wait for the end of the “clumsy clown’s” term in office and added that they will throw Madonsela’s farewell party.

“We cannot wait for you to complete your term, but we will bear with you, just a bit longer. We are certain that we will not have to deal with you ever again. In fact, we will not see your face nor hear your voice ever again.

“We would like to volunteer our services in organising your farewell party, just to say, “Goodbye, it was not fun whilst you were with us”, it read.

ANCYL have also asked Madonsela to focus on her duties in office and to stop “attacking” the ANC leadership.

“We politely request this agent to leave political matters to activists and politicians. We further request her not to attack our government using the highly-respected office that she was correctly appointed to by President Zuma.”

The ANCYL further added that it will not “downplay” its views on “clumsy clowns” who are “politician wanna-be’s” like Madonsela, who are forever apparently “preoccupied” leaders in the ANC.

Madonsela reacted by tweeting: “Someone help please. I’m totally flabbergasted. What is this about? I wasn’t even aware I was the subject of such vitriol? Still baffled.”

Many others slammed the ANCYL on Twitter, calling the statement childish and even criminal.

@MujovoSuzie tweeted: “The statement written by ANCYL abt #ThuliMadonsela is absolutely childish. #ANCYL is a disgrace to publish such nonsense.”

@Tenereclub: “How long will it take the ANC’s ethics committee to respond to this criminal act #ANCYL #ThuliMadonsela #ClumsyClown”

There were also many messages of support for the Public Protector.

@real_lisa_adams said: @ThuliMadonsela3 you protect the public, the public will definitely, always protect you. You inspire me! #thuliforpresident #ThuliMadonsela.

She later tweeted her message of thanks.

On Tuesday during the ANC NWC media briefing ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte called the ANCYL statement “unfortunate” and said that the ANC does not endorse or condone the sentiments of the youth league.
